Excursion

Sunday october 16th will be dedicated to the visit of the surroundings of Chamonix. Nature, Science and Art are on the program of this day: hiking close to a glacier with a glaciologist in the morning, and visiting master pieces of contemporary artists in a beautiful mountain scenary in the afternoon...

  • Program:

In the morning, a bus will take us to the entrance of the tunnel under the Mont Blanc, which is the starting point of our walk up to the "glacier des Bossons".

There, a glaciologist will show us the glacier landscape and explain its geological history and the link with the global warming. We will eat our pique-nique at this nice location before hiking back down to the bus.

In the afternoon, the bus will take us to the "plateau d'Assy" where several master piece sculptures can surprisingly be observed along the road, and where a small church called "Notre Dame de Toute Grace" hosts the work of famous contemporary artists such as Fernand Leger, George Braque, Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse, ... A guide will take us through these master pieces, and a free-time will allow you to rest, or make a short walk in the surroundings.

  • Advices for the morning hike: the denivelation of the hike is +300 m up. Hiking or sport shoes are mandatory. The hike is quite easy, but on a mountain path. Bring warm clothes, especially since most of the hike will be on the shade, and since we will eat the lunch up there.
